FAQs
New Patient Experience
What should I expect during my first visit?
Your initial consultation is all about discovery. We will discuss your health history, perform a physical examination, and conduct specialized orthopedic and neurological tests. If necessary, we may also take X-rays to get a clearer picture of your spinal health. Once we have a full diagnosis, we will discuss a personalized care plan tailored to your recovery goals.
How long does a typical appointment last?
The first visit usually takes about 45 to 60 minutes due to the comprehensive exam. Follow-up adjustment appointments are much more streamlined, typically lasting between 15 and 20 minutes, depending on your specific treatment plan.
Safety & Techniques
Is chiropractic care safe?
Yes. Chiropractic is widely recognized as one of the safest drug-free, non-invasive therapies available for neuromusculoskeletal complaints. While some patients may experience mild soreness—similar to the feeling after a good workout—this typically fades within 24 hours as your body aligns.
What is that "popping" or "cracking" sound?
That sound is called a cavitation. It is simply the release of a gas bubble (oxygen, nitrogen, and carbon dioxide) from the joint fluid when the joint space is opened. It is very similar to cracking your knuckles and is not the sound of bones rubbing together.
Scope of Care
Do you only treat back pain?
While we are experts in spinal health, chiropractic care is effective for a wide range of conditions. We frequently help patients with:
- Headaches and Migraines
- Sciatica and Leg Pain
- Neck and Shoulder Tension
- Whiplash and Auto Injuries
- Sports Performance and Recovery
Can I see a chiropractor if I am pregnant?
Absolutely. Many patients find chiropractic care helpful for managing the pelvic and low-back changes that occur during pregnancy. We use specialized techniques and tables to ensure the comfort and safety of both the mother and the baby.
Insurance & Logistics
Do I need a referral from my primary doctor?
In most cases, no. Chiropractors are "primary care" providers for musculoskeletal issues, meaning you can book an appointment directly. However, some specific HMO insurance plans may require a referral; we recommend checking with your provider or calling our office to verify.
How many sessions will I need?
Every body is different. Some patients feel immediate relief, while chronic issues may take a few weeks of consistent care to stabilize. Our goal is to move you from Relief Care (symptom management) to Wellness Care (prevention and performance) as efficiently as possible.
Can I use my Health Insurance?
How does insurance work for chiropractic care? We participate in most major insurance programs, including Medicare, as well as auto accident (Personal Injury Protection), and workers' compensation cases. Because every plan is different, our staff will verify your coverage and explain your benefits to you at no charge before you begin treatment. This ensures there are no financial surprises along the way.
What if I don't have health insurance? Our primary goal is to get you the care you need. If you do not have chiropractic coverage, we offer a variety of flexible payment options and "Good Faith Estimates" so you can plan your budget accordingly. Many of our patients choose to pay directly for care, finding it to be a highly cost-effective and affordable way to manage their health and recovery.
Is chiropractic care expensive? We believe that a small investment in your health now is much more affordable than the long-term costs of managing a chronic injury or a health crisis later. We offer competitive rates for our services—including adjustments, therapeutic massage, and specialized therapies—and can even create customized family plans to make a wellness lifestyle accessible for your entire household.
